We write to keep you informed of the progress of the new building and associated works at The Spark site, Newcastle Helix.
Sir Robert McAlpine have been appointed by developer Legal & General to construct a 12 storey office building with associated hard landscaping works. The building is composed of a steel frame with a concrete core, housing lifts and stairs, all supported by concrete piled foundations. The façade will be substantially made up of glass using a curtain wall stick system.
We will be erecting a tower crane, which will be approximately 50m tall, in January 2020. This will be in place for about a year to enable us to erect the structure.
We are currently in week 8 of our 97 week programme for the project and we are on time to hit our completion date of July 2021.
Piling works and foundations are now in progress. The structure will start to take shape early next year.
The core will be constructed using a slip-form method and the first pour is programmed to take place in early March 2020. Due to the nature of this process we will need to carry out works into the evening whilst the pours are taking place. The concrete will be poured daily (Monday-Friday) for approximately seven weeks. As such there may be some additional noise and vehicle movements on the site during this time, however, any disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum.
We shall endeavour to keep you updated on our progress throughout the course of the works with regular progress letters and bulletins.
As The Spark commences, so work to The Lumen is nearing completion.
The external façade is almost complete and the internal fit out is progressing at pace. Externally, hard landscaping works are ongoing around the building. We are on schedule to hand the building over to our Client in February 2020.
