Plot 9 is a compact neighbourhood, a private rental scheme that places professionals in the heart of Newcastle Helix.

More than 280 build-to-rent apartments with amenities including roof terraces, a residents’ lounge, work from home space, and a gym. The street level will include a public cafe/bar space. Subject to planning.

These planned 66 inspirational homes for professionals and families are an exemplary sustainable development in the middle of the only city centre neighbourhood of its kind in the UK.

Each of the Future Homes will have flexible living spaces to suit residents’ changing needs. They’ll have innovative designs, such as moveable partitions, so rooms and layout can be configured to suit the changing needs of different households as they age. And every home will have floor to ceiling south facing windows.

They will also make use of cutting-edge smart technology. Smart technology means you can run your home from your phone, thanks to the free public WiFi throughout the quarter – from checking what’s in your fridge to preheating your oven.

It’s the future and it’s soon to be right here, at the Helix. “It is well known that our quality of life is very dependent on the quality of our housing,” says Professor Rose Gilroy, founder and chair of the Future Homes Alliance. “The Future Homes project will throw down a challenge to the house builders by creating new ways to live well in cities.”
